In 2006, Orrick opened its 17th and 18th offices in Beijing and Shanghai, closely following the 2005 opening of our offices in Hong Kong and Taipei. China Presence

Orrick's China practice lawyers have an impressive and unmatched history of assisting Chinese, Hong Kong and foreign parties with local and cross-border China-related legal matters for more than three decades. In 2005, the international law firms of Orrick and Coudert Brothers LLP agreed on the transition of the substantial portion of Coudert's China practice in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai to Orrick. Coudert Brothers was the first foreign law firm in Hong Kong (1972), the first foreign law firm in China (Beijing in 1979; recipient of license no. 001 in 1992) and one of the first foreign law firms in Shanghai (2001).

In 2006, Orrick was recognized in the Asian Legal Business Fast 30 awards as "one of the Asia-Pacific region's fastest growing and most dynamic law firms." "Orrick took the spotlight . . . when it secured the transition of the Hong Kong and Shanghai offices, as well as the majority of the Beijing office, of Coudert Brothers. . ." In 2007, we continued to expand our China offices with the addition of nine partners and more than 70 lawyers and staff in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai, including strong capabilities relating to Korea and Vietnam.
